1. The Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx
The Pyramids of Giza are the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. The Great Pyramid of Khufu was built about 4,500 years ago and was the tallest structure on earth for almost 4,000 years. 2. The Grand Egyptian Museum
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) near the pyramids is the largest archaeological museum in the world. It displays the complete collection of Tutankhamun's treasures, the Grand Staircase lined with royal statues and the solar boat of Khufu. 3. The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir
The historic Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo opened in 1902 and still holds a vast collection of statues, sarcophagi and objects from every period of ancient Egypt. Its old-fashioned galleries have a special atmosphere.
4. The Citadel and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali
Saladin began building the Cairo Citadel in the 12th century to protect the city. Inside stands the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, finished in the 19th century in Ottoman style, with its large domes and tall minarets. The terrace offers one of the best views over Cairo.
5. Al-Muizz Street and Islamic Cairo

6. Khan el-Khalili Bazaar

7. Coptic Cairo
