What to Expect on Your Islamic Cairo Tour

Your guide picks you up at your hotel and starts at the Saladin Citadel, the fortress built in the 12th century to protect Cairo. Inside, you visit the Mosque of Muhammad Ali with its great domes and alabaster walls, and enjoy the view over the city from the terrace. Next comes the Mosque of Ibn Tulun, built in the 9th century, with its huge courtyard and unusual spiral minaret. In the afternoon you walk along Al-Muizz Street, lined with Fatimid, Mamluk and Ottoman mosques, madrasas and palaces, and finish in the lively lanes around Khan el-Khalili.
