What to Expect on Your Memphis, Saqqara and Dahshur Tour

Your day starts in Memphis, the first capital of united Egypt, where the open-air museum displays a giant limestone statue of Ramesses II and an alabaster sphinx. Next you drive to Saqqara, the vast burial ground of Memphis. Here you see the Step Pyramid of Djoser, designed by the architect Imhotep, and visit decorated tombs of Old Kingdom nobles with lively scenes of daily life. The last stop is Dahshur, where King Sneferu built the Bent Pyramid, whose angle changes halfway up, and the Red Pyramid, the first true smooth-sided pyramid. It is often possible to go inside the Red Pyramid. These pyramids show how the Egyptians learned to build the perfect pyramids of Giza.
